Well what can I say? This year really has been a rollercoaster with so many ups and down’s, but the one thing that has stayed completely consistent throughout is the incredible support from all of you – our fantastic members. Thank you so much for your continued support. We would not have been able to run the twelve events from July without you and, of course, presented 15 Sunshine Coaches!
I have also been very fortunate to have had such great support starting from the top with our Captain, Len Goodman, our Executive Committee, our President Jimmy Tarbuck and my colleague, Samantha. But I would like to make special mention and thanks to our Chairman, Pip Burley, who has worked tirelessly behind the scenes and has been a huge help to me. As they say, when the going gets tough, the tough get going!
I would like to say a huge ‘thank-you’ to all of the members who have once again stepped up and agreed to sponsor the events because without this support it really wouldn’t be the same.
I have great pleasure in confirming our 2021 schedule – (please see attached) I hope you agree, the list of courses we have booked, in my opinion are outstanding and I have also included some new courses such as Swinley Forest GC which will be a great venue to kickstart our season on March 11th. We also have two major champions, Ian Woosnam and John Daly, booked to host our ‘Sunshine Classic’ and ‘Variety Pro Invitational’ events along with a new Ladies European Tour Pro- Am.
There is also a very special new event in honour of our 2009 past captain, Ray Clemence, who passed away only a few weeks ago. We are running the Ray Clemence Footballer’s Invitational at Hankley Common in April, where we will also present a Sunshine Coach in Ray’s name.
Sadly, we weren’t able to run our Christmas Lunch on the 16th due to Tier 3 restrictions – but it wasn’t through lack of trying! That said, I have decided to extend our online auction a few more days so it will now close on Sunday 20th December at 7pm, So, do support us in this way if you can.
In its own way, 2020 has been a great year for Variety Golf. We have kept going, overcome a lot of challenges along the way, and managed to present fifteen Sunshine Coaches. But I won’t be sorry that its over!
So, have a great Christmas, be careful, and let’s all look forward to a healthier New Year – whatever it brings…
