Variety Golf’s flagship event – The 24th Variety Sunshine Classic – was hosted this year by Master’s Champion Ian Woosnam at the outstanding Woburn GC where we played the stunning Dukes course. The event was once again sponsored by our partners at The Premier League and we presented a Sunshine Coach in their name to the Foxfields Academy based in Leicester, who support severely disabled children, and they were so grateful.
We had an incredible turn-out with 28 teams and the scoring was very tight with just 3 points separated the top 4 teams, what’s more, our very own Captain, Len Goodman, won the Best Celebrity score with 37 points! Well done Mr Captain!
A great day was had by all. Woburn was in incredible condition and then members and guests went on to enjoy a Gala Dinner at Flaxbourne Gardens, a lovely country marquee venue. The evening included a Q&A with Ian Woosnam, who had some fantastic stories of his career, the Ryder Cup, winning the US Masters and some funny Seve stories.
A big thank-you must go to Ian Irving who ran the Live Auction where a great deal of money was raised -in fact the event in total raised sufficient to donate three more Sunshine Coaches to three much deserved Special Needs School.
